Information for Visitors
ENTRANCE FEE:
Free
HOURS:
Be sure you know what materials exactly you want to pull before calling to make an appointment. When I first called, the man I talked to refused to make an appointment for me until I named specific collections (even though I was meeting with a librarian that same visit).
9 AM to 4:45 PM, Monday-Friday, except holidays.
You must notify the Library at least 24 hours in advance of any visit.
Identification
You must bring with you two forms of identification, at least with a photograph.
Cameras and Photocopies
Photocopies: On a case-by-case basis
Cameras: I'm not sure, but I can guess that the answer is no.
General Procedure
- Like I mentioned before, everything is pretty tightly run here. You must call or email at least 24 hours in advance. Then we you arrive, you must confirm your appointment at the outer desk before you move to the inner desk where you'll complete your registration. After putting all you stuff in a locker, you are finally allowed into the reading room. Like HSP, APS has librarians who are on duty to retrieve information for you at all times at desks at either end of the room. Make sure you use call slips and give as much information as possible about the item you want.
Miscellaneous
-
See the general information page for more details here.
Appointments
You MUST call at least 24 hours ahead of time to make an appointment with the front desk at APS. But for your first visit, you should also contact Roy Goodman or another librarian to ask for advice about relevant materials. After your first visit, you must continue to make an appointment with the front desk each time you plan to visit, but don't need to contact a specific librarian every time (the front desk will suffice).
When making an appointment to meet with a librarian, it is best to do so by email. Make sure your email includes the following information:
Complete name
Surface address
E-mail address
Contact Information
Roy E. Goodman, Curator of Printed Materials, is very knowledgeable about the collections (among many other people).
